Little Dog With Lots of Courage Saves Baby

Watch This Video

Near Fort Collins, Colo., a family pet is being called a hero. That’s because 1-year-old Chihuahua “Zoey” was bit protecting a baby from a rattlesnake.
According to Monty Long of Masonville, the family’s 5-pound dog jumped in between Long’s young grandson and snake when the two got too close.
"She just knew, she knew the baby was in danger," Grandpa Long said. "He didn't know what the rattle sound was, he didn't realize the snake was there.”
The dog got bit and required treatment.
"There is a puncture above her eye," Long said. "The one is the scar there, snake actually slit her head. Her head was like a grapefruit."
Long eventually killed the snake which measured more than 3 feet long.
