Happy Tails- Our Dog Rescue Video :)

Momma volunteers for a doggie rescue and we also fosters dogs. She made this video to show stories about some of the dogs that have been rescued and how their lives have changed.

Some of the doggies in this video are ones that we actually fostered ourselves: Meeko the American Eskimo, Winnie the German Shepherd cross, Joey the blonde mixed breed dog, Sunny Bunny the yellow lab cross and Ditto the German Short-Haired Pointer.

There are also other dogs in the video that stayed at other foster homes too.

When Momma becomes sad or annoyed or disillusioned with the frustrations and politics of dog rescue, she watches this video a couple times and she feels it's all worth it.

Turn on your speakers so you can hear the music and enjoy!

Wasn't that cool? Doesn't it make you happy that all these beautiful dogs were rescued and their lives were saved.

Woofs from Casper, Buddy, Nikki and foster Eskies Jazzy and Bailey-yup we are a 5 dog (nut)house for awhile!

Guess Who Visited Us At Christmas?

MEEKO

Meeko's new Momma went away for Christmas
and we got to dog sit Meeko for a whole week!

Here are some things that Meeko did
while he was with us.
Cuddled on the couch
with his new Momma's sweater.
(Just so he would remember her)
Wrestled with Nikki

Played tug of war with Nikki

Chewed on his favorite toy

Watched out the window

Kept watch over things

Napped

It all went by so fast and before Meeko knew it
his new Momma was back.
He was so excited to see her.
Having Meeko stay over Christmas
was a great Christmas present !

THANK YOU TO MEEKO

Hi doggies,

Momma is dedicating this post to Meeko who is doing awesome at his furever home!
She found this letter posted on a rescue site. It says it all.

THANK YOU

Thank You for bringing this foster dog into my life.

Had I not made the decision to participate in rescue, I would never have had the chance to meet him. If I had sat here comfortably in my home and said "I already have four dogs and I know that I couldn't take in another - even on a temporary basis," I would never have met this dog.

Yes, it takes time to rescue and foster... but who gave me Time in the first place? And why or what was the reason I was given Time? To fill my own needs? Or was there another reason ever so small and seemingly insignificant, like rescuing this one dog that could make a difference in another's life? Perhaps to add joy, hope, help and companionship to another who is in need?

With great sadness, I sat down on a footstool in my kitchen this morning and watched as this foster dog bounced back into the house and skidded across the floor to sit ever so perfectly in front of me. He was the picture of health, finally. He was all smiles for me.... and I smiled back at his happy face. Deep in his eyes, the storm clouds of illness and generalized poor health had blown away, and the clear light of his perfection radiated out from his beautiful soul. He holds no ill will toward man. He forgives us all.

I thought to myself as I impressed this one last long look of him into my heart, what a very fine creature you have created. Tears slowly pooled and spilled over my cheekbones as the deeper realization of how wonderful this dog is sank into my internal file cabinet of Needful Things to Remember. Lord, he's a dog - but he's a better human being than I am.

He forgives quickly. Would I do the same?
He passionately enjoys the simple things in life. I have often overlooked them.
He accepts change and gets on with his life. I fuss and worry about change.
He lives today and loves today. I often dwell in the past or worry about the future.
He loves no matter what. I am not that free.

This very lovely dog has gone to his new home today and already I miss him.
Thank You for bringing this dog into my life.
And thank you for the beautiful and tender lesson on how to be a better human.

MEEKO IS ADOPTED :)))

Well it's official! MEEKO IS ADOPTED! YAY!

Momma is a little sad to let him go. She says it's bittersweet. Huh ?? We ask you .... How can it be bitter and sweet at the same time?

Momma leaked only a little this time. Maybe 'cause she knew this was a good home for Meeko and 'cause she knew she would see Meeko again. He is going to live only 4 blockies away from us! In fact Nikki and Meeko have a play date tomorrow. Cool!

Here are a couple pictures that Momma took of Meeko last week just before she walked him over to his new furever home.

We will be sure to have Nikki report how Meeko is after she visits him tomorrow!

Hi It's Meeko Here.....

Guess what?
Foster Momma has been taking lots of pictures of me in the last couple weeks.

Guess why?
'Cause a nice lady is interested in adopting me!
I've gone and visited her a few times.
Foster Momma likes her
and thinks it will be a good home for me.
We are hoping the adoption goes through.
The new lady only lives 4 blocks away
from Foster Momma.
Can you believe it?!!!
I'll still be able to see Foster Momma
once in a while!
Won't that be great?
These pictures were taken a couple weeks ago
before the snow came.
Here is a side view of me on the steps.

Here I am sniffing in the yard.

And running and playing.
Hanging out with Buddy.
After all that playing I like to curl up for a nap.
Sometimes on the couch.

Sometimes in the crate.
Look where Foster Momma
found me sleeping today.
Cuddled up to the wall.

Aren't I silly?

See ya!

MEEKO'S BACK WITH US

Hi DWBers,

Yes, it's me Meeko.
Some of you are very astute and have noticed Casper signing my name once again on the posts he has made on your bloggies. Yes I'm back!!

I am once again hanging out with Casper, Buddy, Nikki and Foster Momma. I was adopted on a temporay basis for a trial period. However it didn't go through for several reasons. Foster Momma does not want to go into all the details here as the internet makes it a small world, but she will let some of you know if you e-mail us directly.
Anyways the rescue group that owns me decided to withdraw the offer to adopt me out to that particular person.
Several things did not go well and now that I am back with Foster Momma she is saying I am quite misbehaved.
What?
Me?
Misbehaved?
Could it be true?
What do you mean ?
Apparently I'm now doing a whole bunch of things that I didn't do when Foster Momma had me before.
What do you mean I'm not supposed to do the following things:
I'm not supposed to pull on the leash?
I'm not supposed to jump up all over people? (Well I used to do that a bit before, you know)
I'm not supposed to ignore Foster Momma when she says 'sit' ?
I'm not supposed to take a flying leap on to the back of the couch and run across the back of Foster Momma's neck then jump down and continue racing on my way? (but it's so fun!!)
I'm not supposed to poop in the house?
Hmmmmmm...........
Okay so this might explain why since I've been back it feels like drill camp!
To end this behavior Foster Momma has implemented the following:
-A crating schedule
-obedience practice
-socialization to other dogs.
Foster Momma, it's just that all the moving from one place to another and different people looking me and different rules have me so confused....
I promise to be a good Eskie and work on better behavior from now on!

Momma Visited Meeko Today!

Momma went to visit Meeko today at his new home where he is on a trial adoption. She came back smiling and happy! She told us that Meeko was very excited to see her. Meeko was doing very well and was also very happy with his new owner too. He has been going on walks and playing alot with his new adopter too.

Meeko also got furminated which Momma said was really really needed.
Meeko was doing what Eskies sometimes do which is "blowing his coat" and yes clumps of his hair has literally been blowing off of him as he runs by!

It has happened to us sometimes too. Nikki blew her coat in May and I blew mine mostly in July but still am getting rid of alot now too. Of course Buddy doesn't do that cause he doesn't shed so he has to go in for haircuts every few months.

Anyways back to Meeko. We all decided that since Meeko loved our toys so much and we have so many (now you know what Momma spends her money on) that we would send some of our toys to go and live with him. So we picked out some toys that were his favorite while he was with us.

We sent the following toys with Momma to give to Meeko at his new place:

- the soft fleece pink floppy puppy stuffy that squeeks (we also have another one but we can't find it right now)

- the blue rope toy with a tennis ball attached at either end. Meeko likes to carry it around by the rope in the middle with the tennis balls left hanging.

- the plush tug toy with the soft red ball the end. Meeko likes to carry it around by the ball and bring it to people to play tug.

and most importantly...

- our beloved yellow duck stuffy that quacks and quacks when we chew on it. Okay, since we all love it so much Momma has promised us she will go and buy us another one!!

Here it is:

We hope Meeko is having fun with the toys!

Why Was Momma Crying Today??

Momma was very sad today.

Why?

Because Meeko went away on a trial visit to what may become his new home. Momma and the other rescue people have been doing many e-mails and phone calls to each other to try to decide if this will be the right home for Meeko. Momma says there are some concerns but they are going to give the interested adopters a try to see how it goes with Meeko. The trial period for adoption will go on until August 29.

If it works out he won't be coming back which is both good and sad. Good for Meeko to finally find a forever home and sad for us too 'cause we will miss him (especially Momma and Nikki who both liked Meeko alot). Buddy and I (Casper) just tolerated him.

Momma said this was the hardest it has ever been for her to give up a foster dog. Do you think this is because Meeko is an Eskie? We think so.

Momma has become so attached to Meeko and Meeko is definately attached to Momma. Meeko kept barking and pulling and trying to follow Momma when she left and that was pretty hard for Momma. That's when she started crying...

Don't worry, we are giving her doggie cuddles and Nikki is licking her tears. Momma is going to go visit Meeko tomorrow to drop off some of his favorite toys and see how he is doing. I'll post more once I hear.

The Answer To Why Meeko Was A Conehead (As Told By Meeko Himself!..)

I Was Sent to the V-E-T place
And
They Un- Dewclaw -ed me!
But Most Shockingly ...

They Neuter-al-ized me!
However in the spirit of getting back at all of them
I waited till Momma was asleep.
Then I slipped my head out of that silly cone
and proceeded to pull out all of my stitchies.
Ha ha ha ha
Oh what a suprise
Foster Momma had
when she woke up!
Yes, there was blood all over.
So she had to clean me up and apply pressure.
Luckily she took pity on me
and decided that I only needed steri-strips
instead of more stitchies
- or dog forbid -
staples!
The bad news was that I had to endure the cone
for an additional 6 days!! :(
Thank dog that my time is done.
I am now parolled
from the cone.
Yay!!

Tell me all you beautiful girlie doggies-
Do I still look manly to you?

;)

DOES THIS LOOK LIKE ANYONE YOU KNOW?

I bet you think they are some lovely pictures of me- Casper!
But no you would wrong....
These are some wonderful pictures of our new foster dog
Meeko!
I'll let him introduce himself here:

Hi I'm Meeko and I'm about 1 year old. I'm quite energetic and sometimes quite excitable. Because of this my foster mom says that I need plenty of exercise and gentle discipline to keep me happy. I really am a very happy boy! I really like going for walks and I can walk without pulling on the leash. I'm thinking that I would like jogging even better. I also know how to sit, lie down and shake a paw. I come quickly when called. I am working on some more things like learning to stay and not to jump up on people. I am currently staying at my foster home with 3 other dogs. I am getting along great with them after having a slow introduction. Sometimes I am not so sure about other dogs that I don't know, so my foster mom is working with me on that too. I love to cuddle, be petted and lean up against my foster mom. Since I'm part American Eskimo I also just love to leave long white hairs on people's clothing. Ha ha ha - It's just something that all of us Eskies do so you will remember us! I also am very good at jumping and can easily jump over a short fence so a 6 foot fence is a must or I must always be on a lead when outside. I am housetrained and crate trained as well. However, my foster mom can leave me out in the house while she goes to work because I am well behaved in the house. I sleep on the floor beside my foster mom's bed although I really would prefer to sleep on the bed with her. I love to play with stuffed toys, play tug and chase after dog toys. I have not been tested yet to see how I am with cats or young children. However my foster mom thinks that because of how excited I sometimes get that I probably would like to chase cats and may be too much for little kids. I'll let you know how it goes once I meet some cats and kids. I'll soon have all my vaccinations, be neutered and microchipped too. So if you are interested in adopting me please fill out an application. I would love to meet you! Adoption Application

Isn't he a cutie?
